As part of Kingston International Business Collegeās (KIBC) commitment to developing globally aware and culturally competent graduates, a group of Graduate Diploma Business Programme students recently participated in a one-day cultural immersion at Te Tahawai Marae.
This authentic and hands-on learning experience introduced students to MÄori traditions, values, and protocols, fostering deeper cross-cultural understanding and preparing them to work effectively in New Zealandās diverse business environment.

The day began with a traditional pÅwhiri (welcome ceremony), offering a powerful introduction to MÄori protocol and hospitality:
Karanga (ceremonial call) signaled the start of the visit
Hongi, the traditional greeting, symbolized unity and connection
WhaikÅrero (formal speeches) provided cultural context and shared values
Waiata (songs) deepened the emotional and cultural resonance of the ceremony
Students experienced the structure, meaning, and spiritual significance of these rituals, laying the foundation for respectful and informed engagement.
